WhatsApp Service

Our WhatsApp Service is available Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. You can speak to our support team via WhatsApp on 07500068065.

After 5pm on weekdays and throughout the weekend, our WhatsApp chats will not be monitored. We will strive to answer the messages received during these times on the next working day. The service will also be closed on England’s Bank Holidays.

If you require urgent advice, please call your medical team or ring 111. In an emergency, always ring 999.

Please note that the service is intended for those aged 16 and over and we cannot diagnose any issues through a WhatsApp call, nor can we give medical advice based on any pictures you may send. Please do not send images as we may not respond.

If you have an issue which needs a diagnosis, you should refer to your own GP ASAP. If you ask to be diagnosed via WhatsApp, we will direct you to contact your own GP.

Will you be accepting calls on this number?

If you want a conversation, our helpline is open during the same hours as our WhatsApp help service. You can access the helpline by ringing 08088 010 444. This number is free to contact from a landline or mobile.

What do you do with the messages I send?

After a chat has finished, we wait a week to ensure that you do not need to follow up on any of the topics discussed. After this week, the conversation is deleted.

The message thread will still be visible by you in your WhatsApp account and it is your responsibility whether you delete this or not. WhatsApp is a third-party service and Leukaemia Care cannot accept liability for data held by WhatsApp or breaches of that data. Security of data cannot be guaranteed in messages you send to us through WhatsApp.

How to speak to our nurse

After a leukaemia diagnosis, it’s understandable that you or your loved ones will have questions. Our Nurse Advisors are available across a range of services to give you the expert advice you need, from diagnosis, to treatment and beyond. However, our nurses cannot diagnose or treat you over the phone. In case of an emergency, please contact your medical team or call 999.

Online support

If you have been affected by a leukaemia diagnosis and are looking for peer-to-peer support, we have a number of free online groups for you via Facebook. A full list of these groups are listed below.

 

Confidentiality

All correspondence is confidential and is kept between Leukaemia Care and you. However, there are some exceptional circumstances where we may pass on personal information from yourself in order to comply with the law or the nurses’ professional code of conduct. For example:

  • We believe you are at serious risk of harm, either from yourself or others
  • We suspect a child may be at risk of harm
  • You pose a serious risk of harm to others
  • You threaten or abuse our staff
  • You are deliberately misusing the service, which prevents the service from being delivered to others
  • We receive a court order requiring us to divulge information
  • We are passed information relating to an act of terrorism

N.B: Our Nurse Advisor is unable to a diagnose a medical condition over the phone and any information provided should not replace any medical advice given by your doctor.

In Case of Emergency

If you need to speak to someone outside of our available service hours, please contact your medical team or ring 111. If your query is urgent, such as you have become unwell, call 999 immediately.
