Welfare advice impact

A diagnosis of blood cancer can have a significant impact on a person’s finances and daily life. Patients may need to take time off work, manage increased travel costs for treatment or navigate complex benefits systems while coping with the effects of illness.

Our welfare advisers provide guidance on a wide range of issues, including benefits applications, financial support, employment rights and managing the practical challenges that can arise during treatment.

The team helps people understand what support they may be entitled to and guides them through the process of applying for benefits or financial assistance. This support can make a significant difference for people who may already be dealing with the emotional and physical impact of a cancer diagnosis.

In 2025, 465 people received support from our welfare advice service, including help with benefits applications, budgeting advice and guidance on accessing financial support.

By providing clear advice and practical guidance, the welfare advice service helps people manage some of the financial and administrative challenges that can arise when living with blood cancer.
