Raising awareness
Leukaemia Care works to raise awareness of leukaemia and related blood cancers. We want more people to recognise the signs and symptoms and seek medical advice earlier.
How we support people
Each year, around 10,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with leukaemia. A significant proportion of these diagnoses are in emergency settings. This can be linked to poorer outcomes compared to those who sought earlier help from their GP.
We aim to raise awareness of symptoms and encourage people to seek help earlier. This can play an important role in improving diagnosis and treatment.
This is the focus of our Spot Leukaemia campaign and other awareness activities. We are working to ensure that more people recognise the possible signs of blood cancer. We want people to feel confident speaking to a GP or healthcare professional if something doesn't feel right
In 2025, the Spot Leukaemia campaign:
- Reached audiences through outdoor advertising, radio, podcasts, social media and news coverage
- Helped raise awareness of the symptoms of leukaemia
- Encouraged people to take action if they were concerned about their health
Campaign activity during the year included:
- Billboard advertising seen more than 430,000 times
- Podcast advertising delivered across 854 podcasts
- Over 120 pieces of press coverage highlighting the symptoms of leukaemia
Alongside public awareness campaigns, we also work with healthcare professionals and partner organisations. Together we aim to improve understanding of blood cancer and support earlier diagnosis.
Increasing awareness of symptoms and improving understanding of blood cancer helps more people recognise potential warning signs and seek medical advice sooner.
