How we support people

A diagnosis of blood cancer can create unexpected financial challenges. Many patients need to reduce their working hours or take time away from work while undergoing treatment. At the same time, additional costs such as travel to hospital appointments, increased household bills and everyday living expenses can place further strain on families.

Our Cost of Living Grants provide financial support to help people manage some of these immediate pressures. Grants can be used to support essential costs such as travel, food, energy bills or other day-to-day expenses during treatment.

The aim of the programme is to provide practical assistance at a time when many patients are adjusting to significant changes in their lives.

In 2025, 585 people received a Cost of Living Grant through Leukaemia Care to help with the financial impact of a life-changing diagnosis.

By providing this support, the grants help reduce financial stress and allow patients and families to focus on their health and wellbeing during treatment.

What people say about our Cost of Living grants

This contribution was a great help in covering basic household expenses. Thank you for the support you provide to people with blood disorders, as they are also emotionally affected, and this brings them some relief.

It will help a lot with petrol, parking and even toll expenses - it's honestly surprising how quickly the costs of commuting build up, so it’s much appreciated.

The Cost-of-Living grant has made a genuinely meaningful difference to me during a challenging time. Living with the ongoing effects of MPN ET and treatment has had a significant impact on both my health and finances, and this support has helped relieve some immediate financial pressure. The £175 award has helped with essential day-to-day costs, reducing stress and allowing me to focus more on my health and recovery. I am highly grateful for this support; it has provided not only practical help but also reassurance that I am not facing this journey alone. Thank you so much for the kindness and understanding shown by Leukaemia Care. With thanks again for your kindness and support.
