CAR-T Away From Home impact

Leukaemia Care’s CAR-T Away From Home service supports patients and families who must travel long distances to receive CAR-T therapy.

How we support people

CAR-T therapy is a specialised treatment that is only available at certain hospitals in the UK. Many patients must travel significant distances from home to receive this treatment and are often required to stay close to the hospital for several weeks during recovery.

This can create additional challenges for patients and families, including accommodation costs, travel expenses and time away from work. The CAR-T Away From Home service helps reduce some of these pressures by providing financial and accommodation support.

Working in partnership with Dalata Hotel Group, Leukaemia Care helps families access accommodation near treatment centres and provides grants to support essential costs during this time.

In 2025, the programme supported families undergoing CAR-T treatment by providing 222 nights of accommodation and 45 financial grants to help cover travel, food and other essential expenses.

By helping patients and families stay close to treatment centres, the service provides practical support during a demanding and important stage of care.

What people say about our CAR-T away from home service

We are so so grateful to you and your team for supporting us (twice), it’s not just the financial support but you are so kind and empathetic and that was so lovely when we were going through a really difficult time.

We cannot thankyou and everyone at Leukaemia Care for all your support. Without the free hotel stays nearby, it would have been incredibly difficult for me to be here when [Patient] needed me the most. Especially as we have been on a single income for 12 months. Please pass on our thanks to the hotel chains for having me!

We found out about the CAR-T Away from Home Service from the nurse, and it was a great help. It financially assisted my son's sister and his dad to come and visit him at weekends while he was away from home for six weeks. We were able to keep my son’s spirits up having visits from his family and my daughters by being able to visits her brother every week. It was so important for their mental health
