Buddy support impact
Leukaemia Care’s buddy service connects people affected by blood cancer with trained volunteers who have personal experience of the condition, either as patients or carers.
How we support people
Many people find it helpful to speak with someone who understands what they are going through. The buddy service offers one-to-one peer support from volunteers who have lived experience of blood cancer and are trained to provide a listening ear.
Buddies share their experiences and offer reassurance to people who may be newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment or adjusting to life after treatment. Speaking with someone who has been through a similar situation can help people feel understood and more confident in managing the challenges of living with blood cancer.
In 2025, 106 people were matched with a buddy, allowing them to talk with someone who had experienced a similar journey. During the same year, 30 new volunteers were trained to help expand the service and support more people in the future.
Through shared experience and understanding, the buddy service helps people build confidence and feel supported as they navigate life with blood cancer.
