How do funeral donations work?
Funeral donations are gifts made in memory of someone who has died. They may be collected at the funeral service, donated online, or given later in memory of the person. The funds are then passed to the chosen charity in honour of the person’s life.
How can I organise a funeral collection for charity?
There are a few simple ways to do this:
- Ask your funeral director to arrange a collection box or envelopes at the service
- Set up an online tribute page where people can donate
- Include donation details in the funeral notice or order of service
Funeral directors can often collect the donations and send them to the charity on your behalf.
Collections online
Many people find it easiest to arrange donations online.
You may wish to create a tribute page in memory of your loved one. This provides a simple space where family and friends can share a photo, write a message, and make a donation if they choose to.

If you prefer, you can also make a donation online at any time.

Collections via a Funeral Director
Many funeral directors are happy to collect donations on behalf of a charity.
They will usually wait until all donations have been received before sending them to us. This process can sometimes take several weeks, so please do not worry if you do not hear from us straight away.
If you would like to let us know about an upcoming collection, we would be very pleased to hear from you and offer any support we can.
Can I ask for donations instead of flowers at a funeral?
Yes. Many families ask for donations to a charity instead of flowers as a meaningful way to remember their loved one. This is often written in the funeral notice or mentioned in the order of service.
You might see wording such as:
“Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of [Name] can be made to Leukaemia Care.”
What should I write in a funeral notice if we want donations instead of flowers?
Common wording includes:
- “Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of [Name] to Leukaemia Care.”
- “In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leukaemia Care.”
This wording gently lets people know the family would prefer donations instead of floral tributes.

Can Gift Aid be applied to funeral donations?

Will donations be recorded in my loved one’s memory?
Yes. We are honoured to recognise gifts given in memory. Where details are provided, donations can be associated with your loved one.
How do I create a tribute page?
