Key facts about leukaemia

  • Leukaemia is the 12th most common cancer and the 12th biggest cancer killer in the UK.
  • Around 10,000 people are diagnosed with leukaemia every year.
  • Around 5,000 people die from leukaemia annually.
  • Around 6,000 people are diagnosed each year with related conditions that can develop into leukaemia, such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).
  • More than 50,000 people are currently living with leukaemia in the UK.
  • Around 34,000 people are living with MDS or MPN in the UK.
