How to set up an online giving page

An online giving page is an easy way to fundraise for your event or challenge, as it allows people from all across the county (and beyond) to quickly head online and donate to your cause.

Here, we’ve put together steps to creating your own giving page on four major websites plus raising money on Facebook.

There are three websites you can choose from to create your online giving page. We recommend Just Giving, as it’s a well know online fundraising platform, but it’s best to choose the website you feel the most comfortable with.

So, read on to find out how to set up online giving pages on Everyday Hero, JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving.

Setting up a JustGiving page

  1. Head to justgiving.com.
  2. Click ‘Start fundraising’.
  3. On the ‘I’m raising money for’ page, click ‘start fundraising’ in the charity section.
  4. If you already have a JustGiving account, enter your details, or click ‘sign up’ at the bottom of the box to create your account.
  5. When asked ‘Are you fundraising for a registered charity?’, select ‘Yes, continue’.
  6. Search for Leukaemia Care.
  7. Choose whether you’re taking part in an event, celebrating an occasion, fundraising in memory or doing your own thing.
  8. If you can’t see your event listed, select ‘Add your own’ at the bottom of the page and describe a bit more about your activity.
  9. Choose your web address – this is the link you’ll be sharing with friends and family when asking them to donate.
  10. Tick ‘Yes’ if you’re running a bake sale, or selling tickets to an event, raffle or auction. Donations to your Page won’t be eligible for Gift Aid.
  11. Click ‘Create your page’.
  12. Job done! Your Fundraising Page is now set up and ready to accept donations.

Setting up an Everyday Hero page

  1. Go to everydayhero.com/uk/.
  2. Search for ‘Leukaemia Care’ and select us.
  3. Click ‘Start Fundraising’ on the Leukaemia Care page.
  4. Fill in your details and set your target.
  5. Select the “Edit this Supporter Page” function and personalise your page!

Setting up a Virgin Money Giving page

  1. Go to https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/.
  2. Click ‘Start Fundraising’ at the top of the page.
  3. Select the type of event or challenge you’re taking part in.
  4. Specify your event or challenge and fill in the required details.
  5. Choose Leukaemia Care as your charity and set your target.
  6. Register your details.
  7. Create a web address for your page. The address will be the same for every event you take part in, so it’s best to avoid one that’s related to a specific event or date.
  8. Customise your page with more information, photos and links by clicking the ‘create my page’ button.

Fundraising through your Facebook Page

Setting up your Facebook fundraising page is easy. All you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Head to www.facebook.com/fundraisers
  2. Click on ‘Raise money’
  3. Select ‘Charity’ and search for ‘Leukaemia Care’
  4. Set a fundraising goal and end date for the fundraiser
  5. Give your fundraiser a title, such as ‘Sponsored head shave’, and describe why you’re fundraising for LC
  6. Select an eye-catching photo to draw people to your fundraiser
  7. And you’re done! All you have to do is to share your page with friends and family.

Set up a GivePenny page

Launching an extra-special takes just a few minutes. Following a few very easy steps, you’ll be able to share your GivePenny page on social media, WhatsApp and email, helping you to raise money!

If you intend to connect an app like Strava, a website channel like Twitch, or a smartwatch/wearable device like a Fitbit, make note of the login details you use, because you’ll need them in a few minutes.

1. Visit www.givepenny.com and click/tap the “I’m a fundraiser” button.

2. Sign in to your GivePenny account. If you don’t yet have your own GivePenny account, sign up!

3. From your Dashboard, click/tap on the blue “Create a Challenge” button.

4. On the next page, type in “Leukaemia Care” into The List of Awesome, along with choosing any campaign, event or appeal you want to join.

5. The next page asks you to choose a challenge template. Click/tap on the one you want to use.

6. You’ll now see a page where the name of your challenge, URL and challenge start and end dates are ready for you to fill in. Once you’re happy, hit “Save and Continue”.

7. Looking good! This next page is a preview of your fundraising page. If you are connecting an app, website or smartwatch/wearable device to your challenge and haven’t already connected the appropriate profile to GivePenny, click/tap on the “Connect to…” button and follow the steps to approve the connection, before finding yourself back on your page preview.

8. Feel free to edit your Fundraising Story, Target and any specific Milestones you would like people to mark sponsorship against.

9. Hit ‘Publish’. The last (but very useful) page gives you the first chance to make a donation to your own page (to kickstart your fundraising), share your page on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and by email. You can also invite people to join your page from here.
