Join us for our next Patient Information Day in Birmingham

Our information day has been created for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) patients, family members or loved ones looking for more information about CLL. On the day, you’ll get to meet others who are going through or been through a similar situation to you.

Dr Shankara Paneesha from Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham will be the main speaker on the day and will be joined by CNS’s and other healthcare professionals.

Some of the topics covered on the day include coping with your diagnosis, fatigue, follow up and future treatments and the emotional impact of your diagnosis. There will also be a table discussion which will give you the chance to exchange ideas and strategies with others.

The day is free to attend and lunch will be provided.

What you need to be careful of

Treatment for most types of blood cancers will result in lower levels of white blood cells, neutrophils, that would usually fight food poisoning bacteria.  Also, the lining of the gut acts as a barrier preventing bacteria from reaching the bloodstream, and during chemotherapy and radiotherapy this can become damaged, increasing the risk of infection
