Our Cancer Lottery Campaign

We think every blood cancer patient has a right to fair and equal access to treatment.

Imagine being diagnosed with a rare cancer and missing out on the most clinically effective treatments because they are not considered cost-effective enough. For many existing and newly diagnosed blood cancer patients, this could become a reality because of changes to the way drugs are funded for NHS patients in England.

Applying standard assessment methods to small groups of patients (such as rare cancers) “would result in us always recommending against their use. This would be unfair.” These are the words of Andrew Dillon, the Chief Executive of NICE (the body who are responsible for assessing these drugs).

We at Leukaemia CARE believe that every blood cancer patient has a right to fair and equal access to treatment. We want to put an end to the Cancer Lottery and ensure that all blood cancer patients can access potentially life-extending drugs no matter where in the UK they live.
