NovWorcester support group celebrates first anniversary
We host support groups up and down the UK, with some being run by dedicated volunteers who help facilitate each meeting. The support groups provide help and advice as well as a space to talk through feelings to other patients, carers and their families and medical professionals.
This special day saw sixteen members attend showing its ever-increasing popularity in the Worcestershire area. Dr. Mark Crowther, Consultant Haematologist from Worcestershire Royal Hospital, came along on the night to talk to the group about a type of leukaemia called chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML).
Zelma Hunt, who is part of the CARE Team at Leukaemia CARE and facilitates the Worcester support group, said: “We spent a lot of time trying to get the Worcester support group up and running and we’re thrilled at how popular it has become. Feedback from those who attend is extremely positive and we’re so pleased that we are able to help those who are on our doorstep.”
Les, who attends the Worcester support group, said: “I am interested in the long-term effects of my diagnosis and it gives me the opportunity to come along and meet others in a similar situation and speak to medical professionals and ask questions in a more relaxed atmosphere.”
The next Worcester support group meeting will be held on Thursday 12th December at 7.00pm at our headquarters and will involve an evening of Christmas cheer, music and refreshments.
