Hattie's Haka

written by

Leukaemia Care, Charity

  • Hattie

Here is one-year-old Hattie. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) on Friday 21st November and started her treatment just four days ago. She will find out on Tuesday 2nd December if the chemotherapy has been a success or whether she will need a stem cell transplant to hopefully cure her.

She doesn’t know it yet, but this special little girl is inspiring others across the country to fundraise for Leukaemia CARE, raising more than £6,000 in just three days through the campaign her family has launched, called #HattiesHaka. International rugby star, Kyran Bracken, has also backed the appeal by photographing himself doing the Haka.

Get involved

Hattie’s family wants to see your warrior faces on social media, a small but significant gesture to support their daughter as Hattie undergoes treatment. All you need to do is take a photo or a video of your, your friends, colleagues and family doing the famous war dance made famous by the All Blacks rugby team, the Haka. Then upload it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #HattiesHaka.

Katie Seymour, Hattie’s mother, said: “Despite this being an incredibly emotional and distressing time for us, we are overwhelmed by the huge amount of support we have had from not only friends and family, but total strangers, too. We never thought it would take off like this!”
