Cancer Data – A guide for Members of Parliament

The Cancer Campaigning Group (CCG) has developed a guide for Members of Parliament (MPs). It is hoped that this toolkit will help MPs to identify ways to improve their local services and improve outcomes and experiences for local cancer patients and their families.

The CCG is a coalition of over 50 national cancer related charities – including Leukaemia CARE – campaigning with a united voice on behalf of cancer patients and their families.

The toolkit provides information on where to find cancer data relating to incidence; prevalence; mortality; survival; screening and vaccination; waiting standards and patient experience.

This toolkit was recently launched at the Houses of Parliament at a meeting attended by MPs and members of the CCG. The launch included speeches from John Baron MP (Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer) and Emma Greenwood (Head of the Cancer Taskforce Secretariat).

The launch was attended on behalf of Leukaemia CARE by Tony Gavin (Director of Campaigns and Advocacy) and Zack Pemberton-Whiteley (Head of Campaigns and Advocacy).

Tony Gavin, Director of Campaigns and Advocacy, Leukaemia CARE said:

“We were pleased to attend the launch of this useful resource for MPs. We hope that both the MPs who attended the launch and other MPs use this resource to help them find the cancer data they need to scrutinise the performance of their local cancer services to ensure improvements for cancer patients.”
