According to a recent eMarketer report, nearly one in four people worldwide will use social media platforms in 2014. The number of social network users around the world has already risen from 1.47 billion in 2012 to 1.73 billion in 2013, which is a total increase of 18%. This number is likely to climb even higher in the coming years, which just goes to show that social media really is a powerful tool that can connect you to a whole range of people.

Social media can be used to keep in touch with your friends, family, colleagues and even former classmates. You can also use it to let others know what you have been up to by sharing statuses and pictures. However, it doesn’t end here. Businesses make the most of social media by advertising and keeping their customers up-to-date on their latest news. It also allows them to forge a personal relationship allowing their consumers to get in touch directly.

Here at LC we love hearing from the people we support and our dedicated fundraisers on our Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest profiles. Whether you’re telling us about your personal experiences with blood cancer or about the amazing things you’re doing to raise money for us, we always appreciate you getting in touch. So for that we would like to say a big thank you to you all.

As a fundraiser, you can make a huge difference to the amount you raise by making the most of social media. Did you know that every time you write a status on Facebook about your fundraising, you could earn yourself up to £12 extra in donations? By making regular and relevant postings this could have a huge impact on your fundraising total.

There are a number of ways that you can use Twitter to your advantage. Twitter is a much more public social network platform and with the use of #hashtags you can ensure your tweets reach a much larger audience. When tweeting about your fundraising, be sure to include a few different #hashtags, for example, “I’m showing my #Support4LC”.
