You might find yourself wondering every Shrove Tuesday why we celebrate it by eating pancakes. Originally, pancakes were eaten as it was the last chance to use up rich and fatty foods, such as eggs, before fasting for Lent began on Ash Wednesday. And what can you make with eggs, milk, flour and sugar? Pancakes, of course!

Now, Pancake Day is celebrated nationwide, and what better way to take part than to host a pancake themed fundraiser and raise vital funds for blood cancer patients. In this list, we’ve put together a few ideas to get you started.

Sweet sweepstake

Gather your friends and family for a sweepstake, placing bets on who can flip a pancake the most times in a minute, or who can throw their pancake the highest. You can either donate all proceeds to us or just the loser’s proceeds, it’s up to you. Either way, this is a sure-fire way to drum up some healthy competition!

Pancake race

A long-standing tradition, pancake races are a staple of Pancake Day, held in schools and towns across the country. It involves racing a marked course with participants flipping their pancakes at designated intervals as they go, and trying not to drop them.

There are a few ways you go can about it:

Great fun for adults and kids alike, it’s no wonder the pancake race is a firm favourite.

Pretty pancakes

If a race isn’t your style, then why not unleash your creativity instead with a pancake decorating competition?

You could even set a time limit and see what people can come up with in ten minutes when left with some fillings, edible decorations and their own imagination.

Pancake for a pound

There’s always the trusty cake sale to help you fundraise, except in this case everything’s fried instead of baked! Cook up a batch of pancakes and stuff them with different fillings, decorate them, or just provide the traditional lemon and sugar. The choice is yours!

We hope this list has helped to inspire you! If you do any fundraising on Pancake Day, let us know and send us your photos at
