If you’re dreaming of packing your suitcase and heading off to the sun or perhaps looking for a cultural city break, your plans can seem clouded slightly with the hassle of finding travel insurance for your holiday.

Whether you have or have had blood cancer, finding a company that will offer you holiday insurance without charging you a small fortune is tricky. Travel insurance companies calculate their cover based on a few factors:

You may find that travel insurance companies will offer you cover but with a few sneaky conditions such as, you can’t make a claim if it’s something related to your cancer or they’ll make you pay a considerably higher premium.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Try to compare as many companies as possible or have a browse at our recommended list of insurance companies.

It can be nice to book a holiday as something to look forward to or perhaps for a bit of rest too. Travel insurance can very much vary depending on where you’re planning on visiting so it’s always best to be in the know about different policies and how much health care you can receive abroad if you need it.

Another thing to consider about where you’re going depends on how you’re feeling in yourself. It’s advisable to speak to your doctor or medical team about whether you’re well enough to travel. Once you’ve done that, it may help you decide where to go as long-haul flights and big trips may seem a little overwhelming.

So, the best thing to do is research, research, research and then you’ll know whether you should pack your rubber ring or dig out the bucket and spade.

You can download a list of travel insurance companies that are sympathetic to people who have or have had cancer here.

Happy holidaying!
