Ways You Can Volunteer

Provide care and support

At a distressing time, patients and their family members can feel scared and vulnerable. Our volunteers can fulfil a vital role by offering a listening ear and providing support and friendship. It can be extremely comforting to talk to someone who has personal knowledge or experience of the illness. If you have experience of cancer either as a patient, carer relative or a good friend then this could be for you.

We all want to show empathy to those we support but the real empathic bond is between those who have truly experienced the trauma, isolation, fright and loneliness of the diagnosis and the cancer journey that will follow. Loved ones, relatives and friends may not always be there when a patient or carer turns to them for that special level of support - for various reasons. So this is where you and your experiences come in to play. You will be the face and voice, which is non-judgemental, confident, impartial but above all supportive.

Help us fundraise

Leukaemia CARE is funded purely by voluntary contributions. Blood cancers are the 5th most common cancer in the UK, after lung, colorectal, breast and prostate cancers, so we’re aiming to fulfil our mandate of reaching out to EVERYONE who needs us. With your help we can do it!

fundraising on the streets

Whether it is through tin collections, organising your own fundraising event such as a coffee morning or taking part in
one of our running or adventure challenges, all fundraising
activities are vital to Leukaemia CARE. You can become
involved in big or small activities on a regular basis or every
now and then.

Raise awareness

In order to reach as many people as possible who need our help, it is essential to make more people aware of Leukaemia CARE and what we can do to support them. Can you tell friends about the charity? Can you put up posters and distribute magazines in your local hospital and community?

A wide range of training is provided to support our volunteers, particularly those that provide care and support.  Our volunteers are also supported by a full time Volunteers Co-ordinator who is there to answer any queries and provide advice. Depending on your preferred voluntary role, an induction process may also take place to introduce you to the charity and also to support you in carrying out your tasks.
