What is it?
A benefit for people 65 and over who require help with personal care because of an illness or disability.
Who is entitled?
- You must be 65 years and over
- Your disability means you have needed help with personal care for at least 6 months
What else do I need to know?
- You can get Attendance Allowance even if you are not currently getting the help you need.
- It is not means tested (your income and savings are not taken into account)
- There are 2 rates of Attendance Allowance – low and high. These are based on how much help and care you need.
- If you are terminally ill, there are special rules regarding Attendance Allowance. Under these rules, you do not need to meet the 6 month qualifying conditions. Your claim will be dealt with quickly and you will receive the Disability Living Allowance care component at the highest rate. You may also be eligible for the mobility component if you have difficulty walking.
