Who We Are

We know how much difference can be made to alleviate the feelings of a person that has received a life shattering
diagnosis or are facing the difficult journey through their
treatment and as a result we focus on the care and support
that people need here  and now

From humble beginnings as a support group set up some 40 years ago over a kitchen table in Amersham, Buckinghamshire by a group of parents of children with leukaemia, Leukaemia CARE went on to be registered with the Charity Commission on 11th September 1969 has now grown to become a national charity working with a professional and caring team of employees, trustees and volunteers. During the 1980’s, the charity changed from being just a children’s leukaemia charity to include all blood cancers, and all ages. Over its life to date, Leukaemia CARE has been based in Exeter and since 1997 has moved to Worcester.

Much has happened over the last four years to grow and change the face of Leukaemia CARE. The incidence and prevalence of blood cancers has increased over the years, being the 5th most common type of cancer in the UK, with official figures suggesting that around 26,000 people are diagnosed each year with leukaemia, lymphoma or an allied blood disorder. Leukaemia CARE has therefore developed and expanded an impressive range of services to help address the needs of our patients and their families to provide practical care and support in every way we can.
