We need your help to reverse a decision that could affect your lives, and the lives of all CML patients now and in the future
NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) has issued an Appraisal Consultation Document (ACD) reviewing the use of dasatinib, nilotinib and high dose imatinib for imatinib resistant CML.
In this document it states that dasatinib, nilotinib are not recommended for the treatment of CML that is resistant to standard dose imatinib. People who are currently receiving dasatinib, nilotinib or high dose imatinib may however continue. This information will appear on the NICE webiste on Friday 6th May 2011, and is open to comment from all stakeholders, including patients, their carers and friends.
Alan Meale MP, at the request of a Leukaemia CARE supporter, has tabled an Early Day Motion (an EDM). This means that if we can get enough MPs to add their support, the issue will be debated in the House of Commons. Althought this doesn't mean that the decision will be reversed, it does mean that we are making a much louder noise about this, and hopefully attracting some positive attention.
If you haven't done so already, you need to tell your MP exactly what this decision could mean to you, to your family and your carers/friends and ask them to lend their support to the EDM. They need to do this as soon as possible. Tell them that the EDM number is 1831 and they will know what to do from there! We currently have 6 signatories but to ensure the motion stays open we need at least 10. To get the Health Minister to sit up and take note we need many more.
To contact your MP if you do not have their address type; - http://www.parliament.uk/ into your search engine (e.g. Google), and you will see a search box at the bottom where you enter your postcode. This will show contact details for your MP.
We need to act now, and together, to get our voices heard!
